Day of Marina and Lazarus

On this day in Russia, surely expected bright flashes in the sky - lightning and deaf lightning without thunder and rain. It was undesirable to look at them so as not to lose sight. Such flashes were awaited with caution. It was believed that they always lead to fires. The peasants believed in an ancient legend. Which narrated that in ancient times the king lived at the bottom of the sea, and he had a daughter, Marina. Once she was bored with living in the kingdom of the sea, and she fled to the earth. Every year, on the birthday of the fugitive daughter, the sea king recalls her flight, gets angry and pierces the sky with fire arrows. In fact, there is a scientific explanation for this phenomenon: bright or blue flashes appearing in the sky are just reflections of lightning sparkling in the distance.
