The prestigious American music magazine Billboard named pop singer Katy Perry the Woman of the Year 2012. The seventh annual award ceremony is scheduled for November 30th. This award, which marks the most talented women in music, has been awarded since 2008. Katie has joined the ranks of superstars such as Beyoncé (2009), Fergie (2010) and Taylor Swift (2011).
“Katy Perry just burst into show business less than five years ago, but she has already managed to do more than many artists can hope to do in their entire career,” said Bill Verd, editorial director of Billboard. “We are very pleased that we can celebrate her incredible and amazing achievements over the past 12 months, calling her Billboard Woman of the Year. Her talent lies in combining endless work in record studios, leadership in charts and a unique, extraordinary personal style. Katy Perry is one of the most interesting and inspiring artists in show business to date. ”
Pop star Katy Perry has recorded many songs during her musical career and many of them have become world hits. Of the last second Teenage Dream album, five audio hits were number one on the American chart. This is the first precedent in the 54-year history of the Billboard Hot 100. The singer became the second musician whose five songs from one album topped the US charts (the first was Michael Jackson).
Teenage Dream spent over 100 weeks in the TOP200 best hits. It sold 2.5 million copies in the United States alone, and about 48 million singles were downloaded online. Katie also holds a record, namely 69 weeks, as an artist with at least one song in the TOP 10 best on the Billboard Hot 100.
In support of the Teenage Dreams album, Katie gave 124 concerts worldwide. Based on this concert tour, a 3D documentary was created. Katy Perry: A Piece of Me is the fourth largest musical documentary ever made. He successfully passed on the screens of movie theaters. Part of the proceeds from the tour were transferred to several charitable organizations.
Katy Perry became mega-popular in 2007 when her single “Ur So Gay” was released. Her hit "I Kissed a Girl" topped the international charts in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Ireland.
