Children born to young fathers are more likely to have genetic abnormalities

For a long time, it was believed that children born to elderly fathers have a high risk of genetic defects. However, recent studies by British scientists have shown: young dads pass on to their heirs much more deviations than age.

Analysis of medical records of 24 thousand parents and their children showed that sperm cells of young fathers contain 30% more DNA abnormalities than men in 20 years. Mutations of the genotype can trigger the development of serious diseases such as schizophrenia, autism and cleft spines.

The reason for this phenomenon is not yet understood by scientists. One of the versions - in the body of young people there are some hidden processes of cell division during sperm production, leading to mutations in the DNA.
